Film School joins our cult.

We’re so excited to announce that California indie rock / shoegaze heroes Film School have joined the Sonic Ritual family. We’ve been obsessed fans since their 2006 eponymous release on Beggars and we’re over the moon to have the honor to release their upcoming sixth album, We Weren’t Here, this fall! Official press release below! Indie shoegaze stalwarts Film School have signed with Sonic Ritual, a division of Eternal Music Group, to release the band’s sixth full-length, We Weren’t Here, in fall 2021. The upstart record label, founded by two veteran music supervisors in 2019, adds Film School to its growing roster of artists including Joe Cardamone (formerly of The Icarus Line), Steven Dayvid McKellar, and the reunited power pop punks Ultimate Fakebook.  Having put out previous releases on their own, through boutique labels like Amazing Grease (run by Scott Kannberg aka Spiral Stairs of Pavement), and on indie juggernaut Beggars Banquet, Film School were drawn to Sonic Ritual’s equity-minded, almost “punk” approach to business and its respect for and supportiveness of the band members’ personal aspirations, says frontman Greg Bertens: “A lot of labels try to make a band ‘fit’ with the label. These guys want to make sure the label works for the band. It’s really unusual and special.” We Weren’t Here will be distributed via Symphonic (digital/streaming) and Fat Beats (physical).

Joe Cardamone’s QUARENTINA original soundtrack album is out now and streaming everywhere rad music streams. Recorded in a flurry of home studio sessions with tracks dubbed in one or two takes just to grab the moment, not think, and keep flying, the album was completed in a matter of a weeks. An exercise in immediacy and minimalism, the album is sparing with its instrumentation but not its intimacy. QUARENTINA finds Joe Cardamone at his most stripped down, raw and vulnerable. If you love Spacemen 3, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, John Cale, and damaged ambient art rock this might be your bag. Due to the pandemic and stuff the vinyl is coming later than planned but never fear – keep those pre-orders coming and we’ll update on the status as we get it from our manufacturing partner and distributor. Watch this space and our socials for the 180 gram oxblood marble vinyl edition. “That emotional rawness … resonates and makes this sparse, understated album so impactful.” – Whisperin’ and Hollerin’“…short passages that scream love and pain in minimalist waves.”  –

Gypsum LP coming this fall!

Holy smokes gang! In addition to the amazing soundtrack to Joe Cardamone’s QUARENTINA project (out June 1st!!!) the Sonic Ritual team and I are going to be releasing some really exciting projects this year and in the next days and weeks we’ll be making some big announcements so watch this space and our socials… Today’s big announcement is that my favorite band of LA indie-psych-post rockers, GYPSUM, spent the pandemic recording with Mark Rains behind the boards over at Station House and I’m so jazzed that Sonic Ritual will have the honor of releasing their debut album this fall! We’ll be dropping the first single later this summer and I can’t wait for you to hear it… Get ready! More exciting news next week…

Joe Cardamone “QUARENTINA” Out June 1st

We’re so excited to announce we’ll be releasing the upcoming new album from Joe Cardamone: the soundtrack to his ongoing film series QUARENTINA. Dropping on June 1st across all digital and streaming platforms as well as on limited edition 180 gram oxblood marble vinyl, QUARENTINA finds the former Icarus Line frontman at his most vulnerable and intimate. The project was born out of a necessity for distraction and expression. A global pandemic. A city in lockdown. The end of a relationship. A life chopped up into parts. Out of this chaos emerged these uncut gems: nineteen songs about love and pain. Recorded in a flurry of home studio sessions with tracks dubbed in one or two takes just to grab the moment, not think, and keep flying, QUARENTINA, was completed in a matter of a weeks. An exercise in immediacy and minimalism, the album is sparing with its instrumentation but not its intimacy. The first two singles “Lisbon” and “Yeshua” are streaming everywhere rad music streams now and we’ll be announcing the vinyl pre-order soon (watch this space for it)… New episodes of the film series starring Joe and Queen Kwong premiere every Sunday on Youtube and… Catch up on chapters 1 – 11 now !

Welcome to the new and improved Sonic Ritual! We’re excited to announce that we pulled a Voltron and teamed up with music supervisor and trailer music producer legend Maura Duval Griffin and epic orchestral music producer and entrepreneur Nitish Raina to form ETERNAL MUSIC GROUP. Partnering with Maura’s upstart custom music house Engine, Nitish’s Eternal Eclipse imprint, and our new joint production catalog Arkival furthers our abilities and deepens our commitment to creating a rad artist friendly ecosystem for all of our artists, composers and writers. We have big plans for 2021 and 2022 including the soundtrack to former Icarus Line frontman Joe Cardamone’s new film series “QUARENTINA”, the debut album of up and coming film composer Tyler Durham’s post rock alter ego Limina, the debut full length of my favorite LA band Gypsum, an unearthed 1980 Los Angeles power pop time capsule that’s never been released and so much more… and don’t even forget about our first two releases: Ultimate Fakebook’s first album in sixteen years “The Preserving Machine” and former Civil Twilight frontman Steven Dayvid McKellar’s beautifully fragile and damaged “ETHIO”.  Get ready, we are not fucking around!  See you in the new releases bin! xoxo,ToddrickCaptain, Sonic Ritual
