Obsessed with scoring for film since he first began to appreciate music, Los Angeles-based composer Tyler Durham has devoted his creative life to the discipline. Known for his mesmerizing skills as a synth programmer in films and series including News of the Wold, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, The Last Ice, and Jungle Cruise, Durham is a creator who thrives in cross-disciplinary collaborations. But, by definition, scoring involves writing to further someone else’s vision - and so the concept of LIMINA emerged as a way to channel his filmic skills in non-nonverbal narration in service of something more personal. Hidden Spaces, Durham’s debut under the LIMINA moniker is crafted for single-sitting immersion, the record is comprised of six works building on musical ideas expressed in earlier movements and seamlessly flowing from one track to the next without interruption. Taken on the whole Hidden Spaces reflects on the ways in which inspiration eases into existence and, through collaboration among muse, body and technology, wrangles its way into being. Combining ideas drawn from ambient electronic music, contemporary classical, new age and that fuzzy realm of contemplative music that lies at the intersection of them all, the album openly explores transitive passages and the very nature of the creative process.
